Follow curator Josseline Pinto in a guided tour behind each piece and the story it tells.
La Historia de la Lona is an international exhibition of textiles and paintings that tell the story of its whereabouts and the processes behind its production. The canvases and fabrics are more than the support for the images in this show, and in some cases it is the same textile that presents itself as the final piece of art.
Fernanda Caballero lets the painting run free on used military tarps following the movements of her body; Oso Parado allows nature to intervene in the works by leaving them on the sea or burying them in places that he later finds. Jaime Poblete, uses wax to give body to the canvas and liberate the chromatic aura. Gonzalo Hernández for his part creates unique textiles with industrial manufacturing processes on visual compositions from collage, and finally Angélica Serech innovates the textile tradition of her Kaqchiquel Mayan heritage to propose personal compositions in embroidery and weaving, making the textile a text and an image.
These canvases and textiles tell their own stories from their past lives or the previous processes to become finished pieces, giving them a story of how they become images.
