ASTURIAS

(Guatemala, 1978) Cultural activist and photographer. He is the founder and director of the cultural space La ERRE and Editorial RARA, dedicated to the production of art-books and magazines such as the renowned RARA Magazine, a publication of representative art and architecture in the Central American region. He has been in charge of the photographic review and editing of the second and third edition of the book Eterna Primavera, Eterna Tiranía by photographer and journalist Jean-Marie Simon. In addition, he was co-curator of the 2021 edition of the GuatePhoto International Photography Festival and since 2011 he has been in charge of the photographic archive of Estate Julio Zadik.

As an artist, his participation in the exhibition Home — So Different, So Appealing at the LACMA Museum (Los Angeles, USA, 2017), Encubrimientos at the Instituto Cervantes, as part of the PHotoEspaña festival (Madrid, Spain, 2010), Arquitectura de Remesas at Casa América (Madrid, Spain 2011), Z4 at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo y Diseño (San José, Costa Rica, 2016). Among his individual exhibitions, Otoro at Espacio Cultural La Erre (Guatemala, 2019) stands out. Deus ex Machina at the GuatePhoto Festival (Guatemala 2018). Arena Negra at the MARTE Museum (San Salvador, El Salvador 2012) and Sol del Rio (Guatemala, 2010). Moderna in the National Palace of Culture (Guatemala, 2008).

He was a finalist in the Descubrimientos contest of the PHotoEspaña festival in 2007 and 2010. Winner of the Silver Glyph at the XVI Paiz Art Biennial (Guatemala, 2008). Selected for the exhibition El Cambio by the World Bank Art Program (Washington, 2012) in which his work was acquired by the World Bank. His photographic work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and art institutions in the US, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Mexico, Spain, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
