PORTRAITS OF AN UNKNOWABLE WORLD.

“Portraits of an unknowable world” is a mobile exhibition created as a Metaverse on MozillaHubs for ZonaMaco 2022.

It brings together the recent work of five Latin American artists whose common point is the use of machine learning, an artificial intelligence technique that uses databases to train computers, with the aim of creating generative works of art.

In the works of this exhibition, the artists invite us to experiment and reflect through virtual reality on the way in which these new technologies are integrated into the daily life of society. In this way, this exhibition proposes to understand virtual reality as the part of “the real world” that is always experienced through the senses, mainly tacticity and vision, and not as an alternative dimension.

    Alonso Cedillo (México, 1988)

He is a Mexican artist whose work develops in different media such as painting, sculpture, video, printmaking, virtual reality and software programming, engaging the public in a physical reality that makes no difference between the real and the virtual. He is one of the groundbreaking latin american artists exploring post-internet art and the relation of computer screens, the Internet and nature on a contemporary life of the XXI century.

Since 2008, his production explores the relationships we establish by connecting to the Internet on a daily basis, emphasizing the economic and social aspects of the Internet. Cedillo’s work portrays and sculpts information displayed on screens, and uses programming itself to open the way to an awareness of how the Internet influences our daily lives. For Cedillo his works are too analog to be electronic, and too electronic to be analog, which, of course, is the reality of our existence. Because of that, traditional brewing methods have remained present in the production of it, as well as in the avant-garde forms of the Internet.

Graduated from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda", his work is part of private collections in Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Argentina, Austria and the United Arab Emirates. He exhibited at the NRML Festival in Monterrey (2013) and presented work at Donaufestival (2013) and Transitio MX (2015) by Fran Ilich.
